I'm currently teaching in the western 'burbs of Chicago. As far as lessons go, I teach what my student wants to learn (and for young, beginner students, the things that student's parents would like for them to learn as well - note reading, etc..). I don't teach what I think they should learn. Oh sure, once I get to know where they want to go, I can offer tons o' stuff that I know will help him/her get to where they want to go - but first and foremost, I want my students to enjoy their lessons so much that they actually look forward to going!   :)

The lessons are comfortable, laid-back, and I only move at the student's pace. Not that it's so comfortable that we never get anything done, but that it's first and foremost a relaxing environment. If it's not, it'll feel like going to school - and we don't want that, do we? And, even though we do things at the student's pace, I'll be there to coach (and maybe prod a little bit) as much motivation and progress out of my students as I can.

I normally accept students from high-school-aged and up, but if a younger student is ready, willing, and hungry to learn, I'm there.

I teach most everything in the guitar-lesson categories: beginner guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, finger-picking, learning songs, etc... and pretty much most styles like rock, pop, blues, classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal, funk, and even a little bit of beginner jazz. You're paying me to show you what you want to learn, so just let me know what you want to work on!   :)

As far as Scheduling is concerned, I'm fairly open to almost anything. Most students do a half-hour every week. But, if you would like to do an hour each week or every other week, that's cool too, of course; again, whatever is comfortable for you.

Payments and Cancellations:

*Cash or check payments are fine.

*I ask that payment is made for the month in advance.

*Any lessons that are cancelled or missed (a.k.a. "no-show") need to be made up before the following week's lesson, otherwise the missed lesson's payment is forfeited.

*Any lesson that I need to cancel can either be made up before the following lesson, or can just be credited to the following month's payment.

The List of some of the most famous guitar riffs, hooks, songs, etc, ever compiled!  ;)

Over the decades I've been teaching (and for as long as I've been learning the guitar), I've ALWAYS found that learning your favorite guitar licks and songs can not only be cool so that you can play those things for the sheer fun of them, but in almost every example, you can learn education things as well that you'll be able to use in your growth on the guitar to make new songs easier and faster to learn, plus give you things you can use in your own guitar riff/song writing.

Well, recently I thought I'd find a list like this to print out and share with my students for ideas on things (songs) to work on. But then I found that a LOT of the lists out there simply suck. BIG time.  In fact, in Rolling Stones "Greatest Guitar Riffs of All Time" list, "Smoke on the Water" did not even MAKE the list. Seriously? Ugh.

Anyway, I compiled the list below from some of the better lists out there, weeded out the no-I-don't-think-so tunes, added a lot of suggestions from friends and students, and then pulled from the years of writing out great guitar licks and riffs for students.

If you think something is missing that should be on the list, PLEASE email me! I want this list to grow as much as possible. Now, I may get flooded with suggestions, so if I don't email you back directly, please don't take offense. Also, if you send a song and I don't add it, it is NOT my way of saying that your suggestion shouldn't make the list because it's not a great song and/or riff, but that it may just not be thought of as one of the greatest all-time and/or most famous that the majority might know.

My email is: Dave@DaveTheGuitarPlayer.com

And now.....The List...

Some of the Most-Famous, Fun-To-Play, Most-Requested, Educational, etc….

GUITAR RIFFS OF ALLLLLLL TI-EEE-MMM!!… (All Time)

In alphabetical order. And if you don’t see something listed individually, check in the “band/artist groupings” (since many bands/artists have multiple “most-famous riffs” to their credit, any with three songs or more have their own section). Also, these aren’t just single-note guitar hooks and/or licks that are only a bar or two long. These cover larger pieces as well. Fingerstyle, rhythm guitar, etc.
