I'm completely devastated that the first "Latest News" I'm
posting here since the rebuilding of the website is to tell people about the
passing of a great friend, guitar student, and boss.
Last Friday, May 2nd, my friend, long-time guitar student,
and owner/operator of JustMusicInc (the music school where I do a number of
my guitar lessons), Rob Braun passed away.
Rob and I started lessons about 8 years ago (I've got to
check my records, it may have been even 9, anyway) and he was always one of
my best examples of a true musician; he was always in search
of getting better at his craft, he LOVED music, he LOVED guitar, and most of
all, he LOVED just playing the guitar. He had no plans of becoming a
rockstar. In fact, I was still trying to get him to even just come out to
one of our SingWithTheBand shows to just jam on some blues with us. But, he
was always to shy to play in front of me, let alone a crowd of people.
But Rob was a talented guitar player. When he didn't know
someone was watching him while jamming along to a CD, he truly played from
the heart. And that again, is what I mean by a true musician - I,
myself, would much rather sit and listen to someone who might not be the
most proficient guitar player but someone who loves what they're playing and
who is playing from the heart than to listen to a technically-talented
player who has no soul.
Rob had soul. Rob was incredibly nice, kind, and funny. He
was a good man in every sense of the word. He was a great guitar student,
and a great boss to have running the music school, but most of all, he was
my friend and I will miss him terribly.
